Uterine Fibroids

Fibroids are common, but with the right treatment you can significantly improve your quality of life.

Fibroids are benign (non-cancerous) tumors that develop within the uterine walls, arising from the smooth muscle cells of the myometrium. They have estrogen receptors and grow in response to estrogen stimulation. About 25% of women over 30 have fibroids, and 25% of those experience symptoms. After menopause, without estrogen, they stop growing and typically shrink.
