Co-founders of the Center for Gynecological Surgery in Heraklion, Crete, with long and distinguished careers at leading reference hospitals in Switzerland and Sweden. Their dream was to one day return to the city where they were born and offer the same high standard of care — backed by their experience, expertise, and state-of-the-art surgical equipment — that they had known and practiced abroad.

In February 2022, after 14 years in Germany and Switzerland, I returned with my family to Heraklion, the city where I was born and raised. Together with my esteemed colleague Leonidas Magarakis, we founded the Center for Gynecological Surgery, based at Mitera Crete, with the goal of providing healthcare services on par with the best hospitals abroad.
I graduated top of my class from the 2nd Unified High School of Heraklion and was admitted through national examinations to the Medical School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens in 2002. As a medical student I was awarded two scholarships from the University of Athens and received my medical degree with distinction in 2008. I began my residency in Germany and completed it at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the University Hospital of Bern, Switzerland, in 2015. Over the next 7 years I worked as a consultant gynecologist-obstetrician specializing in surgical gynecology (advanced laparoscopy, hysteroscopy) at the same institution, one of the largest and most renowned centers for gynecological endoscopic surgery worldwide. From 2017 I served as a regular trainer of colleagues in laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgery in Switzerland, and as Chief mentor of the first European-accredited Swiss center for Gynecological Endoscopy (GESEA Diploma Centre, AGE-Swissendos).
In the 2021/2022 academic year I obtained my PhD from the University of Maastricht, the Netherlands, and was appointed Privatdozent (venia docendi) at the University of Bern, Switzerland. My research interests include pain pathophysiology, non-response to hormonal therapy in patients with endometriosis / adenomyosis, and the impact on fertility and pregnancy, for which I have received multiple awards and distinctions.

In March 2022, after 15 years in Sweden, I returned to Heraklion, the city where I was born and raised, with a vision to offer the local community the knowledge I had gained. In collaboration with Mitera Crete, my outstanding colleague Konstantinos Nigrianakis and I decided to found the Center for Gynecological Surgery, so that as a team we could offer our surgical expertise with the highest possible safety for the patient.
I graduated from the Experimental High School of Heraklion and studied at the Medical School of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, graduating in 2006. My drive for knowledge led me without hesitation to seek training abroad. In Sweden I began my residency at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the central hospital of Karlstad, Värmland. Already during my residency I developed a strong interest in laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgery. From 2012 until March 2022 I worked as a consultant gynecologist-obstetrician specializing in surgical gynecology (advanced laparoscopy, hysteroscopy) at the central hospital of Karlstad and the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the University Hospital Skåne Malmö, one of the 4 national endometriosis surgery centers in Sweden. A landmark step was a 6-month hands-on fellowship with Mario Malzoni in Avellino, Italy. From 2012 to 2014 I trained in England at the University of Surrey in gynecological endoscopy (Advanced Gynaecologic Laparoscopy). In 2013 I passed with distinction the examinations of the European Society for Gynaecological Surgery, receiving the title of Gynecological Endoscopist.
Since 2019 I have been involved in a multicentre randomized trial in Sweden. The aim of the research is to deepen our understanding of ovarian cancer prevention through salpingectomy after completion of reproduction (opportunistic salpingectomy). This research forms the basis of my doctoral thesis, completed in 2025 at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden. The thesis investigates whether laparoscopic salpingectomy for sterilization is more harmful to the ovaries compared to the classic method of tubal ligation. In parallel, I continue to collaborate with surgical centers in Sweden to ensure my ongoing development in clinical gynecology.
